North East Run 2011

This is a long overdue race review. Suppose to post earlier but was quite busy recent months.

The North East Run race venue was quite near to my house. This is the event where I can reach with taking a bus ride.

The race venue is at the Pasir Ris park, so I took this chance to warm up by slow jogging to the venue.

There's not much runners participating in this event as there are 2 more races were held on this day, which are the Salomon X Trail Run and Swissotel Vertical Marathon.

Quite surprise when the VIP (Mr Teo Chee Hean) walked passed me towards the stage.

The direction and distance markers were placed accurately.

The route is kind of boring as we have to run 2 loops (14km). I would prefer East Coast Park route as the road is wider and beautiful scenery. Maybe next year they should extend their route to Punggol Waterway.

The volunteers were reaching out to pass the drinks to the runners.

This uncle keep cheering for us, clapping his hand and smile non-stop to the runners passing by him.

At last I have reached the end of the race.

Collecting my medal.

A lot of bananas awaiting for us. Sorry to say I have grabbed 2 bananas. =) Too hungry.

Cold 100 plus from the chiller box.

Newton Run 2011

Recently, my left leg seems injured. Whenever I begin running, I can feel a sharp pain around my achilles tendon and shin. After this race, I will need to rest for a while. :(

There's no shuttle bus provided. Therefore I need to take a cab to the race venue. The friendly cab driver asked me some running tips. I encourage him to start jogging. Reached there around 6:45 am.

Did some leg stretching. Hope my leg would not hurt during the race. The cosplay girl looks so fierce.

There are a lot of people waiting at the starting pen. I can't get through the crowd to the starting line.

I was in the second wave, which started around 7:15 am. Did not manage to see any VIPs.

This shouldn't be the first hydration station. It's for those runners who are heading back but a few runners went to grab some bananas.

Its been raining for the past few days yet the weather today is very hot.

The first hydration station. Had my Pocari Sweat drink.

She has not unleash her wing.

Around 4km, I can feel the pain on my left leg. I'm unable to run constantly. With injury, I had no choice but to use run walk method to finish the race.

The second hydration station seems understaff. A lot of runners were waiting for the drinks. Some of them just grab the bottle and self serviced.

The cup was big but contains very little water.

My injury seems not so pain anymore. So I try to run constantly.

Saw a group of cyclists gathered around the car park.

Manage to run and walk till 6km.

All of the hydration stations are provided with Pocari Sweat.

If I'm not wrong, I saw this uncle in other races too. He actually keep all the cups he had into the plastic bag. A very environment friendly uncle.

From here onwards, I increased my pace, hoping to finish the race quickly.

7km more to go!

If i'm not wrong, she is Sumiko Tan. The winner of women's Open of Sundown Full Marathon and second position of Sundown Ultra Marathon. I tried to take her frontal picture but she is way too fast.

Team from Mileage running club setting up tent with mist sprayers to cool down the runners. Very meticulous.

There are energy gels provided in this hydration station. I did not consume the gel, afraid my stomach will feel uneasy.

No, the finishing point is opposite. I still need to run another 2km to complete the race.

Most of the runners did not manage to continue the run anymore.

The splitting of 18km category and 30km category's runners. For those who are in the 30km category will need to run another loop.

Finishing soon!

Medal, banana and Pocari Sweat waiting for me.

Best of all, they provided an ice cool towel as a "finisher" towel. It's so refreshing.

Punggol Runners running club. They all looks very happy with their race result and keep posing to take pictures.

Want to buy some Newton's shoes?

Waiting for their bf, friends or family.

The unique finisher medal with "finisher" towel.

Back of the medal.

Well, my timing is not good but I'm glad that my injury is not worsen.
See you in Newton Run 2012!
